Doogs kindly supplied the trip notes for a previous trip that trip that we did, so we thought we'd check it out after some rain.

We had four participants this time.

Skip - Holden Rodeo turbo diesel
Leroy - 4Runner petrol
Adam - Prado petrol
Brettski - 40 Series LandCruiser petrol

Our intrepid travellers for the day at the Lakes Roadhouse.

The bunch.

We stopped at the same lookout place as last time, but decided to do some rock climbing. While it was steep, in the dry this wasn't too much of a challenge.

The next stop was the swamp. Last time this was dry as a bone and after the rains we had recently it didn't look too different apart from some surface water. This turned out not to be the case - it was very sticky and way slippery. Leroy was the first (but certainly not the last) to get stuck.

Adjacent to the swamp was a nice picnic ground.

Let's have lunch!

After lunch we decided to take a look around the edge of the swamp. This was firm in places and knee deep in mud in others. But, you had to drive a car on it to find out which bit was which.

I won't mention how far past the red-line my cruiser was, nor how many times seemingly hard ground turned into complete slush. When we got back, Leroy, Adam and I took pleasure in taking up three out of the four bays at the local carwash for the better part of half an hour.

The end result. The end result.

That's about it for this trip. Lots of fun in the mud. We returned to the swamp a couple of months later. It was bone dry but our tracks were still there.
