Because the WC4x4 AGM was on today at Lake Leschenaultia and given that it is only 50km out of the city I decided that I'd ride out there. And seeing as a 100km round trip isn't too far (right?) I did a 45km round-the-river ride with the RFY crew before setting out.
On the way out all was good - a nice tailwind giving a bit of a boost. I decided not to ride up through Helena Valley and Darlington because I figured that Greenmount Hill would be a bit busy from a traffic perspective. Which is a shame because the route I took was a bit longer and quite a bit harder. But you get that.
Had a small incident with an elderly female drive in Sawyer's Valley who decided to pull out in front of me and the run me off the road. Naturally, I was expecting this so no damage done but I had a few loud but polite words with her about giving way to other vehicles on the road, including bicycles.
I arrived at the AGM inside of two hours so that was pretty good. The ride home was harder (because of the head wind) and because I was dog tired. This time I came straight back along Great Eastern Highway and down Greenmount. To be honest, I prefer coming down Welshpool Rd - Greenmount isn't as steep (which is why it is easier going up) and therefore not as much fun.
Despite feeling very weary I arrived home in two hours as well so that was good. But now I'm very much done. Time for a rest - just over 150km today with 110km of that in the hills.
